now I got the whole set of data associated with a particular (English) entry: translation(s), Sindarin entry, possible child entries (alternatives, plurals), special case mutations, pronunciation and metadata (word-sort, references, etc.) see: http://youtu.be/z6C23Qpfans Next: switching between Germ...

First I want to say that I love what you're doing, and that I very much look forward to the final result. What you are working on is actually a Sindarin-dream come true. Thank you! :D That's great to hear! Actually: today I got a working application that displays the translations. It's still a bit ...

hi, I think this approach of using SQLite is working really well. I've tried to find the best (fastest) way to load the data into the application and what I have now is really fast: here's a little screen movie of the list of English entries, which is filtered in real time by the letters that you ty...

Next step .. it's a bit of a technical story for now, but I'll post it in case anyone is interested (and in order to keep you in the loop) Now the database is complete, or in any case complete enough for the time being, the next thing is to build something (an application) around it to make it usabl...

there's an updated version of the database available. While working on the application it turned out that it greatly helps performance to change some foreign key relationships, so I changed that. You can pm me for a copy. http://parendili.org/dict/new_datamodel4.png It is now really fast: even a sel...

... and I can give you either a MySQL dump or a set of SQL scripts.
oh, and of course as a SQLite db file (size ~ 2Mb for the whole thing including indexes). This is the format that I want to use for the application.

Ah hello Didier, my, it's a small world isn't it :) - - - - - - For those interested, I finished the database this weekend. I did some minor changes on the data model as well: some of those things only become apparent if you are actually stuffing the data in it and something falls out, or something ...

but that it already did in the previous incarnation:

2) ... Since verbs have no plural and nouns have no past, one could actually use the plural column for that, unless it would create problems elsewhere. It is certainly technically possible, but I doubt if it's worth the effort of fetching the distinction between verb and noun elsewhere (in the meta...

ok, in order to move ahead I should like to settle on the sort of data that can be expected. 1) It's easy to "misuse" the "reconstructed" column in order to indicate whether or not an entry is regularised . For now, 0 means "not reconstructed / attested"; and 1 means &q...

yes, I understand that.
Next to using such a symbol, maybe we could use something like colouring the word red to make it very obvious what the status of the word is?

Ah thanks! I had indeed missed some of that. I'd be in favor of adding everything which could be potentially helpful. People can always switch them off if they don't want to use them for whatever reason. If this is felt like "treading on uncertain ground" we could make it so that the goodi...

Update: last week I got the updated wordlist from Eryniel and I've started to consolidate everything into the db schema. That's a bit of a puzzle job but it is going pretty well. I'll post the sqlite db file somewhere if that's done, so anyone interested can have a look at it. I'm not sure I complet...

Here's a little example database with only three Sindarin entries, should anyone like to have a look at it. It's an SQLite database, which is the lightest open source database that I could find (see http://www.sqlite.org/ if you want to know more about it). It also has a very small memory footprint,...

Another change to the datamodel, hopefully the last one! It's not even that I cannot stop tweaking the thing, but while building prototypes I just hit upon issues that called for these changes. I'm sorry for making it look more complex than needed ... What made me finally decide to get rid of the ex...
