@Roman, no problem!
Carl has posted his English glossary; see Lambengolmor. In it he constrasts abstract nouns like laatie, naamie, and sangie and gerunds like (en)-yalie, saying that "the lack of a long root vowel [...] favors the interpretation of menie as a gerund."

Well, Tolkien himself doesn't use the words "atom" or "isotope," but the commentary in French does. The relevant parts are from part of a text on Elvish reincarnation ('The Converse of Manwe with Eru,' from 1959); Tolkien is discussing various points, including "whether the ...

A followup: "Now some hold that as the matters of Ea proceed from a single erma (if this indeed be true), so the life of living things comes from one beginning or Ermenie " (128). "... But the loremasters tell us that they may be in themselves not wholly and exactly equivalent. Some o...

Yes, those are the correct character readings. With "mangled", here's the thing: when I'm logged out, my browser displays the page with Western encoding, causing your characters to look correct and mine mangled. When I login, it switches to displaying the page in Unicode, causing mine to s...

Regarding the book mentioned in my previous post: the Elvish terms (all Quenya) appearing in the texts and discussed in CH's glossary are mostly already attested. We have: erma, Ermenië, estel, fëa/fëar, hröa/hröar, Imbar, nassë/nassi, and únehtar. Since the glosses are in French I don't know...

There's been a new publication (in French, edited by Michael Devaux with assistance from CT and Carl Hostetter) of some "unpublished or partially published" manuscripts which, among other things, have some Elvish terms within them. See Morgan Thomson's blogpost summary here for more detail...

Roman wrote: - iâr is actually changed by Tolkien to iûr (VT46:22)
Nonetheless, Tolkien seems to have gone back to iâr in the early 1950s if Túrin's name Iarwaeth is any indication (cp. 30s Iarwath). Though the Narn (UT) later in the 50s had Agarwaen instead. :)

We now know about a Quenya poem Tolkien recited in 1958; though the recording has not been released yet, we have his English translation. Twenty years have flowed away down the long river And never in my life will return for me from the sea Ah years in which looking far away I saw ages long past Whe...

All that I can think of (since I'm rusty) is that you have ëar written as éar, whereas both the vowels should be short ĕar

Hi Roman; likewise! No, none of it has a translation provided by Tolkien; speculation and glosses (some tentative, some quite solid) are editorial. I wondered whether -ch might turn out to be related to -kse , but given the nature of the sentence which follows (which seems to have a 'because of what...

pronominal paradigms

Sadly, I still can't read or write German; I hope English is permissible. :? As I didn't know who has received their issue already, I figured I would post a bit of a teaser to whet the appetite, if you will. How about the Noldorin/Beleriandic/Sindarin pronominal paradigms which appear, then? 8) I'll...

Nice to see you as well! I've been away for a while, but noticed you're more active in the Plaza's lang forum than I am, right now. There was a sort of miscommunication / slipup during the transfer of the Plaza to a new server that resulted in the address not connecting to the right IP, so in order ...

Forgive my English, as I do not yet know German. *facepalm* For "put" I am tempted to use *caeda- in a transitive sense, derived from *kai-tā as opposed to intransitive *kai-tă and attested Q. caita . I would have liked to use something like "settle" instead, perhaps from MBAR — ...
